Battery energy storage systems will account for one-third of the European frequency response market
By 2025, battery energy storage systems could account for one-third of the European Automatic Frequency Recovery Reserve (aFRR) market share, according to research firm forecasts. The market will launch in the middle of this year, with France and Germany sharing its services first.Corentin Baschet, an analyst at consultancy Clean Horizon, said recently that the company has carried out extensive research work on the upcoming PICASSO project, which plans to achieve mutual benefits in the aFRR market in Europe. He said France and Germany would launch the scheme by co-delivering services in mid-2022, a little later than originally planned (scheduled for the first quarter).

CC Power plans to purchase 50MW/400MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system
CC Power, a community energy provider consortium in California, has held its second long-duration energy storage tender, again for an eight-hour lithium-ion battery storage system.CC Power is a joint power agency of 10 Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs), 7 of which made the purchase. The group announced at the end of January this year that renewable energy developer LS Power's 69MW/552MWh Tumbleweed lithium-ion battery project was the first project selected for the agency's joint tender (RfP) contract.

6MW/7MWh battery energy storage project will be deployed in the Arctic winter
French battery manufacturer and energy storage system integrator Saft has said it has been awarded a turnkey contract to deploy a 6MW/7MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Norwegian archipelago,media reported.The company will deliver the battery storage system to the community in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, and it will be completed by the end of 2022. Less than 3,000 people live in Svalbard.The battery energy storage project will install six Intensium Max containerized energy storage systems developed by Saft and will feature a fully integrated solution that includes power conversion and control systems. The company says it will help the city of Longyearbyen achieve its zero carbon goal.
